We are celebrating the achievements of those who make the Sheffield city region a great place in which to grow old.
Belmayne sponsored the group/project prize at the inaugural Age Friendly Awards, run by Age UK Sheffield, which were held at St Mary’s Church near the city centre.
Partners, Ben Smalley and Jon Stevens, presented the Age Friendly Group/Project award to Sheffield Mencap and Gateway Lunch Club, a longstanding scheme offering a vital social opportunity for elderly people at risk of isolation or loneliness.
A dedicated team of volunteers runs the Sunday lunch club once a month, providing a homecooked meal, transport and a game of bingo for those over 70 with learning disabilities and their carers.
We believe it is hugely important to recognise and reward the people who enrich Sheffield and the surrounding areas with so many opportunities to live a fulfilled and active life, regardless of age. The Gateway Lunch Club was a very worthy winner of our Age Friendly award and the event really highlighted the strong sense of community that exists locally.
The Age Friendly Awards are part of the Age Friendly City programme, run by Age UK Sheffield. For more information, visit: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/sheffield/
